The matchups seem split with the Rangers overall seeming to have a small advantage.

The first three innings went by with each team getting just one hit.

After three: California 0 Texas 0.

The Angels got a run in the top of the fourth but that was all for the middle innings.

After six: California 1 Texas 0.

The Angels got their second run in the eighth.

Dick Billings led off the bottom of the eighth with a double. Ted Ford then brought him home with an RBI single to make it 2-1. The Angels went to the bullpen as Don Mincher came in to pinch hit for Kubiak. A wild pitch sent the tying run to second. Mincher then laid down the sacrifice bunt to move Ford to third. Larry Biittner then pinch hit for Gogolewski but grounded out with bringing Ford home. Maddox then flew out to center to end the inning.

And that would do it as the Rangers went down in order in the ninth.

Final score: California 2 Texas 1.
