MCGOVERN WORKS QUICK

Terry McGovern (14-2) made quick work of #5 Digger Stanley (3-6-3) with a 7th round KO, in his 2nd title defense on 7-27,1903. McGovern nearly had it stopped in the 1st and the 3rd, but ran out of time in each round. Terry put Stanley dwon twice in the 1st. Stanley didn't go down in the 3rd but was seemingly defenseless against the ropes by the end of the round.

Mcgovern finally ended it with an uppercut mid-way through round 7.

At the time of the stoppage I had it 59-52. I scored round 1 1-7, and round 3 10-8 despite no knockdown. Dan Cuoco at ringside had it 59-54. The official judges had it 59-52/59-53/59-54. I was glad to see one judge scored it exactley the same as I did.

On the undercard

LHW - Philadelphia Jack O'Brien TKO4 George Rooke (Rooke stepping up to LHW for the loss)
HW - Sam Langford KO5 James McCoy
WW - Rube Ferns UD10 Billy Devine
MW - Dick O'Brien DRAW Arthur Upham (O'Brien is a beginner)
MW - Pete McCoy UD10 Johnny McGlade
