ROOT RETAINS LBA LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

Jack Root (14-3) retained his Lightheavyweight title with an UD15 over Jack Sullivan (9-4-1) on 6-8-03. A very close fight that was back and forth for the first 10 rounds. Root broke it open by winning rounds 11-15.

I had Root winning 145-141. Harry Otty, ringside expert, scored 143-141. The official judges had it (champ 1) 143-141, (random) 143-141, (champ 2) 145-139

On the undercard the LBA had it's first 12 round fight. The new rules state that any fighters ranked in the top 10 fighting each other will fight 12 rounds. Providing that the division has more than 20 ranked fighters.

In the 12 round fight #10 Harris Martin (7-4-1) scored what many felt was a mild upset with a SD12 over Jack Burke (9-4-2). It might of been the best fight of the night. Burke can out strong and put Martin to the mat in the 2nd round. Martin recovered and won the last 4 rounds including an 8th round knockdown. I had it 115-112 in favor of Martin.

The official judges scored it 114-112/113-114/114-113 for a very close decision.

Also on the undercard

HW - Joe Coburn DRAW Marvin Hart
HW - John Knifton KO2 Frank Slavin
LHW - George Gardner UD10 Mike McCoole
MW - Frank Craig KO4 John P. Clow
