Jean Carmona hit a pinch-hit homer with two outs in the ninth inning off Danny Grigg to give St. Louis a 2-1 win over Cedar Rapids and a sweep of their doubleheader at Busch Stadium (1997).
Grigg had allowed a one-out single to Michael Toglia before striking out J.T. Realmuto for the second out.
However, Carmona drove the second pitch he saw 383 feet over the right-field wall to give the River Walkers the sweep and their fourth straight win.
Cedar Rapids took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Victor Robles tripled with two outs off Walkers starting pitcher Aaron Nola.
He scored when Domingo Santana followed with a single.
Nola worked six innings, allowing one run on five hits.
Reyes Moronta, Phil Maton and Jake Brentz all worked an inning apiece to close it out.
Brentz earned his first win.
Grapplers starting pitcher Merandy Gonzalez did not surrender a run in his six innings on the mound.
