Walkers news: April 22 -- St. Louis 10, Cedar Rapids 5, Game 1

Record: 6-4, 2nd, 0.5 GB Des Moines
Nicky Delmonico had a big day at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a double, two homers, three runs scored and four RBIs to power St. Louis to a 10-5 win over Cedar Rapids in the opening game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium (1997).
The River Walkers broke from the gate strong with a four-run first inning. Andrew Benintendi had the big early blow with a two-run homer off Golden Grapplers starter Carlos Martinez.
Byron Buxton and pitcher Brandon Spagnuolo had RBI singles later in the inning, as they pounded out six hits in the opening inning.
Cedar Rapids had climbed back to within 5-4, when Delmonico went deep for the first time with a solo shot off reliever Carson Smith.
His second homer came just an inning later, a two-run blasrt off Jacob Rhame, to cap a four-run inning that made it 10-4.
Spagnuolo battled through six innings, allowing four runs on five hits.
Bill Warson handled the seventh and eighth innings. The ninth belonged to John Curtiss, who retired the side in order.
