Walkers news: April 16 -- Des Moines 6, St. Louis 3, Game 1

Record: 3-2, 2nd (Tied/w. Des Moines), 0.5 GB Quad City
Tied 3-3, Des Moines scored three times off the St. Louis bullpen in the bottom of the eighth inning to send it to a 6-3 win in the opening game of a doubleheader at Labatt Park (Montreal).
Acquired in the offseason to stablized the left-side of the River Walkers bullpen, Jake Brentz was not good in that eighth.
Rafael Devers snapped the tie by leading off the inning with a solo homer.
He didn't get the next two batters out either, as Cody Bellinger followed with a double and a single by John Lehto put runners at second and third.
Brentz did strike out Billy McKinney for the first out.
But Carson Kelly followed with a two-run double to put the Harvesters up 6-3.
The River Walkers put up a three-spot against Des Moines starting pitcher Rory Stevens in the top of the first.
Four of the first five St. Louis batters collected hit -- including RBI singles from Andrew Benintendi and Nicky Delmonico -- a two-out double from Jared Thomas later made it 3-0.
But the Harvesters began to peck away in the bottom of the first against Walkers starter Brendan Spagnuolo.
John Lehto's two-run single with two outs made it 3-2.
Spagnuolo allowed an RBI single to Kelly in the fourth to tie it.
Stevens worked the first five innings for Des Moines, allowing three run on five hits.
Mike Soroka, Bryan Garcia, Yonny Chirinos and Ken Giles all worked a scoreless inning apiece to close it out -- with Chirinos earning his first win and Giles his second save.
Walkers reliever Brad Hand came into get the final out of the sixth inning, but later had to leave with a back issue.
He is expected to miss six days and will likely be placed on the disabled list.
