Game 1
Pittsburgh controlled the majority of the play during the first period, but it was
Toronto’s Harry Oliver that got the games first goal.
Ed Jerimiah ties it at one after a scrambled faceoff bounced to him in the slot.
Dit Clapper is able to keep a puck in at the point, which leads to
Fred Elliot scoring the go ahead goal late in the 2nd.
Toronto gets a number of good chances in the third. They really controlled the play, but couldn’t beat
Clint Benedict. Carl Voss gets the
Pirates third goal of the game, the insurance marker. An empty net goal is also added, and the
Pirates win game one, 4-1.
Game 2
It feels like the
Leafs should be in desperation mode for this one. It clicks early though.
Gerry Lowrey finds himself alone for a breakaway beating
Benedict with a backhand. 1-0
Leafs.
John McKinnon converts an
Ace Bailey rebound 40 seconds later and it’s 2-0!
Bailey extends the lead to 3-0 before a
Dit Clapper point shot gets
Pittsburgh on the board.
Nels Stewart gets it right back, and it’s looking like the
Leafs have control in this one. The teams exchange goals in the third.
Toronto wins game two, 5-2…
Bailey is game 2's first star!
Game 3
A very even, scoreless first period to begin a very important game three. A lot of the same in the second. No goals,
Toronto slightly controlling the play. It’s a tight game though. The third period is all Toronto! They outshoot the
Pirates 18-4, but can’t find the back of the net. Neither can
Pittsburgh. No score, lets go to overtime. In OT, it takes 13 minutes for a game winner.
Nick Wasnie is the hero. He scores on a pass from
Doug Young. The
Pirates win game 3 despite allowing 54 shots.
Clint Benedict deserves a pat on the back. It was all
Toronto for the last 33 minutes!
Pittsburgh leads the series 2-1.
Benedict made 54 saves in game 3!
Game 4
Benedict stops another 14 shots in a scoreless first period. He’s gotta be in the
Leafs head at this point. Amazingly, no one scores in the 2nd. Now I'm thinking
Toronto goalie
Roy Worters is getting frustrated. He’s allowed just 2 goals in the last 8 regulation periods. The
Leafs finally score halfway through the third.
Murray Murdoch gets it by the brick wall known as
Clint Benedict. 1-0
Toronto. Thats the only goal of the game.
Toronto wins it 1-0! We go to a game 5.
Worters records the game 4 shutout!
Game 5
This amazing goaltending battle comes to an end tonight. It’s
Benedict vs
Wolters. Winner takes all!
Toronto is all over
Pittsburgh in the first. They outshoot them 16-2, but there is no score.
Benedict is putting in the effort of a lifetime!
Paul Thompson breaks through for the
Leafs. He pots a rebound up high late in the 2nd. The shots after two, 32-6 in favour of
Toronto.
Pittsburgh doesn’t record a shot on net for 17 minutes in the third. They get 3 in the final 3 minutes, but they can’t score.
Toronto wins it 1-0, and takes the Stanley Cup 3-2! What amazing goaltending!
