09/26/1972 - Giants Fall to Metzger, Astros; Kingman Hits 100 RBI Mark

The Houston Astros defeated the San Francisco Giants, 9-2, in NL action at Astrodome, with Houston shortstop Roger Metzger named player of the game. Jerry Reuss picked up the win, improving his season record to 23-6. He struck out 7 in 8.1 innings. The Astros bumped their record to 87-69 with this latest triumph.

Metzger had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning, when he hit a grand slam. The Astros went on to win.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Metzger. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

Giants first sacker Dave Kingman hit a solo leading off the 3rd inning off LHP Jerry Reuss to hit 100 RBI for the season.
