June 12

To Chicago: Andre Benoit, J.T. Wyman
To Colorado: Bryan Bickell, rights to Brandon Whitney

June 13

Andre Benoit informs his new team that he wants to explore the market this summer via free agency. Tough lesson learned for Blackhawks management.

June 21 - The Entry Draft

The Winnipeg Jets won the draft lottery and with the first overall pick, they selected forward Sam Reinhart. The Vancouver Canucks picked 25th overall - and after surveying the prospect pool, they decided to trade that pick....

To Pittsburgh: Niklas Jensen, 2014 1st Round Pick (Vancouver), 2014 5th Round Pick (Vancouver)
To Vancouver: James Neal

The Canuck draft picks were:

50th overall, 2nd round pick - Adam Ollas Mattsson (LD) from Sweden
75th overall, 3rd round pick - Aaron Irving (RD) from the WHL
100th overall, 4th round pick - David Honzik (G) from the Czech Republic

The two defenders are expected to resume their junior careers, and the goaltender Honzik is expected to play in Europe. We increased our defensive depth and we were in need of getting a 4th goalie for organizational depth. The real story of the 2014 draft was the acquisition of James Neal. We believe that the quality of our top 9 forwards is amongst the best in the entire league.

June 22
To Ottawa: Artem Anisimov
To Columbus: Colton Orr

To Montreal: Jay Harrison, rights to Mitchell Theoret
To Carolina: Alec Martinez, rights to Dustin Walsh

To New Jersey: Zenon Konopka, 2015 1st Round (Toronto) pick
To Toronto: rights to Nathan MacKinnon, rights to Ilya Sorokin

Brendan Dillon has had a change of heart, and he's agreed to our previous offer of $25,000,000 over 5 years. We have sent this issue to our legal team, as we believed that our offer had been retracted and officially withdrawn. Needless to say, this $5million cap hit has increased our payroll to above the league maximum salary cap.

June 30

Alex Ovechkin announces his retirement! Alex was obviously dejected from his torn labrum (shoulder) injury that he suffered back on Feb 27, 2014.
Lou Lamoriello agreed to a contract extension with the New Jersey Devils but later on that day, he abruptly decided to retire.
GM's Jim Rutherford and David Poile both decided to retire.
Coach Ken Hitchcock retired as well.

Memo has been received from the ownership group. The objective for the new season is to make the playoffs. I'm extremely confident that this can be done.

Washington signs Andrew MacDonald to a 5 year deal worth $16,750,000.

The Vancouver Canucks have decided to place Kris Versteeg on the trading list. His 32 goals last season tied him with Daniel Sedin for the team lead but Kris is a 3rd liner who carries a cap hit of $4,700,000 for another two seasons. That contract must be moved.

Pre-Season Developments (September 2014)

To Ottawa: Dougie Hamilton, Bobby Robins, rights to Lars Volden
To Boston: Clarke MacArthur

To Boston: Hampus Lindholm
To Anaheim: Joe Morrow, Justin Florek and 2015 3rd round pick (Boston)

To Vancouver: Craig Adams, rights to Jakob Silfverberg
To Anaheim: Kris Versteeg, rights to Zach Hamill, 2016 4th round pick (Vancouver), 2016 5th round pick (Vancouver)

Funny thing happened after this trade, as we offered Silfverberg a 3 year contract at $2million per season only to realize that his demand was actually $6million a season for 3 years. He's a good asset though, I expect that his rights will be easy to trade.
