Game 1: Halifax 2 @ Charlottetown 4

We knew offence was probably going to be hard to come by this season. All the more so when it takes 17 minutes before Halifax can get their first SHOT of the season. Goulet notched a goal midway through the first and Kennedy doubled the lead deflecting a point shot early in the second before Cody Donaghey banged one home from the right dot. Donaghey's second knotted the score midway through the second, but that's all Halifax got, after failing to convert on several powerplays. Gervais poked one past Brassard early in the third, and Kameron Kielly put it out of reach late. 4-2.

0-1 CHA Goulet (1) (Kielly, Rydstrom) 10:06
0-2 CHA Kennedy (1) (Thomspon, Rydstrom) 22:30
1-2 HFX Donaghey (1) (Somppi, Fortier) 23:34
2-2 HFX Donaghey (2) (Shewfelt, Somppi) 31:55

2-4 CHA Kielly (1) (Goulet, Deschenes) 11:53

Game 2: Halifax 0 @ Saint John 2

Road games in back-to-back nights sees Halifax go with Resop between the pipes, and Bishop and Argento slot in for Blain-Dupuis and Flower. Halifax weathered a 14-shot barrage from the Sea Dogs in the first, while Halifax returned the favour with 11 shots in the second, the scoresheet blank after 40 minutes. Nathan Noel broke the deadlock early in the third with a clever deke on Resop, and Samuel Dove-McFalls added some insurance midway through the frame, banging home a rebound. Halifax only mustered 3 shots in an uninspired third period.

0-1 SJS Noel (1) (Bell, Joseph) 47:36
0-2 SJS Dove-McFalls (1) (Povorozniouk) 54:32

HFX: Resop 32/34; PP: 0/2 ; SJS: Turcotte 22/22; PP: 0/1
3 Stars: 1. Dove-McFalls; 2. D.Moynihan; 3. Noel

Game 3: Acadie Bathurst 3 @ Halifax 5

Home opener, with games again on back to back nights. Resop stays in goal, with the same 18 in front of him. Could be a long night, as Bathurst has notched 12 goals in their first two games. Cooper Jones notches his first QMJHL point on the team's first shot, 6 minutes in on a feed from Connor Moynihan. Kuznetsov ties it midway through, before Ilya Putintsev bangs home his first before the end of the frame. Kutznetsov and Putintsev again trade goals midway through the second, before Putintsev completes the hat-trick on a deflection late in the second. Watt scores short-side early in the third to extend the lead, before the wheels start falling off, as first Bent and Beaulieu, then Moynihan and Beaulieu drop the mitts. Sampson brings Bathurst back within two, but too little, too late.

1-0 HFX Jones (1) (C.Moynihan, Ford) 5:53
1-1 BAT Kuznetsov (2) (Maher) 13:17
2-1 HFX Putintsev (1) (Somppi, Ford) 17:08
2-2 BAT Kuznetsov 2(3) (Simpson, Thibeault) 29:22
3-2 HFX Putintsev 2(2) (C.Moynihan, Somppi) 30:26
4-2 HFX Putintsev 3(3) (Watt, Taillefer) 37:20
5-2 HFX Watt (1) (Taillefer) 42:19
5-3 BAT Simpson (3) (Kuznetsov, Francis) 50:06

3 Stars: 1. Putintsev; 2. Kuznetsov; 3. Watt

Game 4: Saint John 4 @ Halifax 2

Brassard back in goal, looking for revenge following the shut-out at the hands of the Sea Dogs last weekend. First overall pick Joey Veleno pounces on a juicy rebound to bury his first career goal four minutes in. No more scoring in the first, but Shewfelt bangs home a goal early in the second, with the fourth line contributing. The tie is short-lived, as Joseph puts the Dogs back up less than a minute later. Halifax ties the game again early in the third, as Otto Somppi wins the draw and crashes the net for a powerplay marker. Saint John against responds quickly, with Matt Green burying one. Imama adds some insurance late. That's all she wrote: 4-2 final.

0-1 SJS Veleno (1) (Bell, Marsh) 4:05
1-1 HFX Shewfelt (1) (Bishop, Dachyshyn) 23:08
1-2 SJS Joseph (1) (Felixson, Veleno) 23:40
2-2 HFX Somppi (1) (unassisted) 40:34 PP
2-3 SJS M.Green (2) (Noel, Smallman) 41:33
2-4 SJS Imama (3) (Povorozniouk, Felixson) 52:38

HFX: Brassard 23/27, PP: 1/7 ; SJS: D'Orio 23/25, PP: 0/1
3 stars: 1. Veleno; 2. Sommpi; 3. Felixson

NOTES:
- the big three is having some trouble getting going. Meier, Fortier, and Moynihan have combined for 1 assist and a collective -4 rating through four games. They'll have to get into something approaching a groove soon, or Halifax may be out of it by mid-November
- Somppi has been a revelation early on, leading the way with five points, and also dominating the face-off circle. He and Putintsev seem to have some chemistry developing.
- Crossley has struggled and is a -5 early on. Faceoff numbers are down, too.
