SP Ricardo Gil was placed on the Disabled List and SP Jeff Frith (24-R) was called up from Vancouver (A). He was 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA in 7 starts for the Mounties.

We also made a trade.

Trade #12:
3B Rick Roeger (24-L) to Cincinnati for C Jim Shippy (30-R).

Roeger is a decent fielder at several positions, but not much of a hitter. He was batting .233/.278/.256 in 90 AB with 0 HR and 12 RBI and 3 SB for Vancouver (A). Shippy is nothing much, but he is probably an upgrade over Craig Petitto....probably. He hit .214/.279/.250 in 56 AB with 0 HR and 7 RBI for Cincinnati. He at least has not allowed a passed ball and Petitto already has 4.

C Marcell Amici (31-R) has been sent back to Vancouver (A).

By the way, we are now in last place...

Portland Beavers (13-18 .419 7.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the PCL West) at
Houston Astros (11-20 .355 10 GB in 8th (last) place in the PCL East)

POR: John Cox (28-L Season debut) vs. HOU: Tommy Kessell (32-R 3-3 2.06)

Cox was 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 4 starts for Vancouver (A).

Kessell is their #1 starter. He has lost 2 in a row, but only allowed 2 runs in 7 IP in his last one.

Won - 6 to 2

We had 8 hits and made no errors
Houston had 6 hits and made 1 error

Jim Cox (W 1-0) went 7.1 innings, allowed 2 runs, 6 hits, 1 home run, 6 walks and struck out 1. 124 pitches. No the best strikeout to walk ratio ever, but he got the job done.
RHP David Fuentes (SV 2) went 1.2 scoreless innings, allowed 1 walk and struck out 1.

Tommy Kessell (L 3-4) went 6 innings, gave us 6 runs, 8 hits, 3 home runs, 2 walks and struck out 8. A good strikeout to walk ration, but a crappy game!

2B Shannon Kuchta had 2 hits with his 4th home run of the year. 1B Glenn Snowden had 2 hits with his 6th home run and scored 2 runs. He has hit a home run in 3 straight games! LF Don Neumann hit his 3rd home run, drew a walk and had 2 RBI. C Jim Shippy, in his Beaver debut in his hometown of Houston, had a hit and 2 RBI.
