We are in Houston to play a 4 game series with the Astros. They lost 3 of 4 in Seattle over the weekend. They are 12th in scoring in the PCL with 4.10 runs per game (Portland is still last, even after the 11 run outburst, with 3.50). The Astros are tied for 13th in fewest runs allowed with 4.90 per game (Portland is down to #5 with 4.00).

Bottom of the First:
Ken Esh swings at a 3-2 pitch and strikes out! Jim Sager doubles down the right field line. Russ Jimenez grounds out to the pitcher and Sager goes to 3rd. 2 outs. Mike Oakley lines a hit to right center and Sager scores. 2 to 1, Beavers. Bob Alsip grounds a hit to center and Oakley beats the throw to 3rd. Greg Wertz beats out an infield hit and Oakley scores to tie the game at 2 apiece... Dalton Steele grounds a hit to right and Alsip heads home, but Bill Wilson throws him out!!

With 1 out, P Jim Adler grounds out to short and P Ricardo Gil calls for Trudy the Trainer... New Pitcher: Jeff Gleason (24-R). Ken Esh grounds out to 2nd.

Bottom of the Third:

With 1 out, Russ Jimenez singles and steals 2nd. With 2 outs, Bob Alsip lines a hit to right and Jimenez scores. 3 to 2, Astros.

Top of the Fourth:

Glenn Snowden leads off with a grounder to right for a hit. With 2 outs, Melvin Rodarte doubles to right and Snowden scores from 1st without a throw! Tie game: 3 to 3.

Bottom of the Seventh:

On the Hill: Jim Krueger (27-R), beginning his 3rd inning of work. Ken Esh leads off with a walk and then steals 2nd. Jim Sager lines a hit to right and Esh stops at 3rd. Call to the Bullpen: Bobby Weatherford (30-R). Russ Jimenez grounds a hit to left and Esh scores... 4 to 3, Astros. Call to the Bullpen: Dick Register (27-L). Mike Oakley swings at the first pitch and grounds a hit to right and Sager heads home, but Bill Wilson throws him out! 2 gunned down at home today! Call to the Bullpen: Garry Ayers (28-R). Juan Rojas is in to play short in a double switch. Bob Alsip lines a hit to left and Jimenez heads home...safe. 5 to 3, Astros. Greg Wertz doubles to right center and Oakley scores... 6 to 3, Astros. Dalton Steels grounds a hit to right and both runners score... 8 to 3, Astros. That is the end of the carnage, however...

Top of the Ninth:
Glenn Snowden and Don Neumann lead off with back-to-back singles. Bill Wilson, the Hero of the Defense, grounds into a force at 2nd, 5-4, and Snowden goes to 3rd. PH Ricky Duarte (28-R), Still looking for his first Major League hit (0 for 7), triples to the wall in center and both runners score! 8 to 5, Astros. That does it for P Jim Adler. New Pitcher: Tommy Trainum (34-R), their closer with a 5.56 ERA and 9 BB in 11.1 IP. PH Tommy Thomas (30-L), known for his ability to draw a walk, is sent up and he draws a walk. Juan Rojas nails one, but lines out to 1st and they double Duarte off at 3rd to end the game...

RHP Bobby Weatherford faced 1 batter and gave up a run and a hit.
LHP Dick Register got 1 out, allowed 1 run and 1 hit and only threw 1 pitch.
RHP Garry Ayers went 1.2 innings, allowed 2 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3.

CF Jack Hinckley hit a double and scored a run. 1B Glenn Snowden had 3 hits with his 5th home run of the year, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBI. SS Melvin Rodarte hit a double and had an RBI. PH Ricky Duarte hit a triple and had 2 RBI. It was his first Major League hit.

For the Astros, SS Jim Sager had 4 hits with a double and scored a run. 3B Bob Alsip had 3 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBI. CF Greg Wertz had 3 hits with 2 doubles, scored a run and had 2 RBI.

Trudy the Trainer's report on P Ricardo Gil was not good: Pulled hamstring that will sideline him for about 2 months... We are down now to 2 Major League pitchers in our rotation.... We will NOT finish in the top half of teams in fewest runs allowed...
