Congrats to the 1872 Champions:

Cy Young Award

During his remarkable year, Mike Fornieles of the Mets posted a 18-9 record in 32 starts. In 253 innings he yielded 226 hits and 108 walks while striking out 134 and compiling a fine 2.92 ERA.

The Red Sox' Bobby Wallace compiled a 14-11 record in 32 starts, tallied 131 strikeouts in 223.2 innings and recorded a 2.49 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .222 batting average against him. Sadly Wallace also suffered a career-ending injury on Sep. 20 so this award will be his last.

Babe Ruth Award [MVP] and Ted Williams Award for Best Position Player:

On the season Ross Barnes of the Astros compiled a .374 batting average to go with a .556 on-base percentage. The native of The United States also added 27 doubles, 14 triples, 5 home runs, 104 RBIs and 157 runs scored.

Playing for Cleveland, Cap Anson had a .362 batting average and a .556 on-base percentage this year. In 159 games he piled up 189 hits, 29 doubles, 20 triples, no home runs, 75 RBIs and 154 runs scored.

Jackie Robinson Award (Rookie of the Year):

20-year-old starter Rich Hill registered a 26-8 record in his first Major League season with the White Sox: in 43 starts. Over 313.1 innings he gave up 265 hits, struck out 227 and issued 129 walks as he held the opposition to a .225 batting average and fashioned a 3.07 ERA.

t wasn't a stroke of good luck that got Pittsburgh's Erubiel Durazo the 1872 National League Jackie Robinson Award, it was his skill on the field. The gifted first baseman performed well with a .336 batting average while playing in 161 games and delivering 213 hits in 634 at-bats. His totals also included 23 home runs, 163 RBIs, 134 runs scored, 147 walks and a .462 OPB.
