First game, October 1st: Alexandria vs Mobile 7:05

Fritz Peterson (15-12) vs Gerry Janeski (13-5)

Oh man do I love postseason baseball. Alexandria takes game one 3-2 in 10. The Aces got on the board first in the top of the 3rd, when Ed Kranepool tripled off of Gerry Janeski and Hank Aaron flew out deep to left to drive in the run. Jim Presley the very next batter slammed a home run to left center. Aces 2-0. Fritz Peterson the Aces pitcher would not yield a hit till the bottom of the 4th, a Kirby Puckett single. He kept the Hustlers scoreless for 8 innings. In fact, it was the 8th before the Hustlers got their 2nd hit. Peterson pitched to two batters in the bottom of the ninth, striking out Jorge Orta to start the inning, but then yielded a single to Tommy Holmes. That was all for Fritz as the Aces manager decided to bring in Jesse Crain. Crain would not do the job. He quickly allowed a single to Kirby Puckett. Got Lou Gehrig to fly out to centerfield. Followed by back to back singles to Frankie Hayes and Doug Mientkiewicz.and the game was tied. Crain managed to get pinch hitter Bama Rowell to hit a weak grounder to second to end the inning.

The Hustlers brought in Wayne Gomes to pitch the 10th inning. The first batter up is Joe DiMaggio. DiMaggio works a 3-2 count ball, called strike, foul ball, foul ball, ball, ball, foul ball, HOME RUN 422 feet, right center. Gomes would get the next 2, give up a single to Tyler Moore and then retire pinch hitter Roy Smalley to end the inning.

The Aces stuck with Jesse Crain for the bottom of the tenth. A smart move, 3 straight ground outs.. Aces win the first game

Jesse Crain gets the win, but also earns a blown save
Wayne Gomes takes the loss

Player of the game, Fritz Peterson. The news was not all good for the Aces though as they lost Hank Aaron for the rest of the postseason when he dove for a line drive in the 4th inning and came to his feet holding his wrist. Aaron sprained his wrist.
