It's going right back to the start page but not crashing? I think a trace file may tell us something here - go to the Settings page from the start screen, click on Troubleshooting, then click "Enable debug trace" on. Then start a game normally, and when it does that to you, exit the game. The fhm_trace.txt file should open automatically (if it doesn't, it's in your \debug folder), copy the contents of that and post them here. That, hopefully, will point us to the exact stage where something is going wrong.
