Columbus Blue Jackets (30-26-9) at Montreal Canadiens (37-23-3)

The Canadiens will face the Blue Jackets for the 3rd time this season. Montreal won at home 3-2 previously and lost on the road to Columbus 4-1. Montreal will be playing back to back nights so G Richard Day was called up. C Chris Hughes continues to play well. the 32 year old now has 25 goals and 63 points on the season. In his last 10 games he has 4 goals and 8 assists and is a +6. Hughes remains the NHLs career points leader with 231 and assist leader with 147.

Columbus currently sits in the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference with 69 points, 3 points out of the final Wild Card Spot. The Blue Jackets don't give up many goals as they are ranked 4th with 2.34 GAA. Things didnt get easier for the opposition when the Blue Jackets acquired G Jerry Welch. Welch currently leads the NHL in career GAA at 1.87, 2nd in wins with 105, 1st in save % at .921 and tied for 1st with 25 SO's.

C Samuel Chabot leads the Blue Jackets with 67 points and 50 assists. he has 17 goals in 65 games. The 28 year old offensive forward is a 2-time All-Star with great playmaking ability. In 233 career NHL games, all with Columbus, he has 66 goals, 206 points, 124 PIMs and a +66 rating.

RW Peter Peterson leads the Blue Jackets with 28 goals and is 2nd with 55 points in 65 games. The 24 year old Peterson is a two way forward with great defensive ability. In 225 career NHL games, all with Columbus he has 78 goals,. 169 points, 97 PIMs and a +53 rating.

LW Rob Hudson is 3rd on the team with 46 points, including 18 goals in 55 games. The 28 year old two way forward is a strong goal scorer. In 198 career NHL games, all with the Blue Jackets he has 64 goals, 148 points, 168 PIMs and a +56 rating.

Columbus will start G Chris Neal, he has 25 wins in 52 starts with a .929 save %. Montreal starts G Richard Day, he has 5 wins in 7 starts with a .928 save %.

Montreal doesn't take long to get a 1-0 lead, RW Yevgeny Ronov gets a PP goal at 2:21 of the 1st. Montreal goes up 2-0 at 6:54 when RW Al Ladd gets his 21st of the year. The shots were 12 to 10 in favour of Montreal in the 1st.

Montreal goes up 3-0 at 2:44 of the 2nd when RW Jim Rutgers gets his 1st of the season. Its now 4-0 as C Dave Wright gets his 26th goal of the year at 5:10 of the 2nd period. Montreal gets a 5-0 goal at 15:52 of the 2nd as LD Andrew Rickford gets his 4th of the season. Montreal out shot the Blue Jackets 12 to 4 in the 2nd.

Montreal goes up 6-0 at 3:36 when RD Marek Bartolcic gets his 10th of the year. Thats it for G Chris Neal and incomes G Jerry Welch. Welch does not fare any better, C Dave Wright scores his 2nd of the night at 5:32 to make it 7-0. The shots were 11 to 11 in the 3rd period. Montreal was 1 for 5 on the PP while Columbus was 0 for 2.

Montreal's RW Jim Rutgers was named the 1st star. He had a goal and an assist. The 28 year old Rutgers now has 1 goal and 6 points in 30 games. In 130 NHL games, with the Blues and Canadiens, he has 10 goals, 23 points, 50 PIMs and a -40 rating.
