The Heartland Baseball League has entered it's 44th season. Two months into the 2021 season and Springfield looks unstoppable while the North is up for grabs.

The Springfield Storm winning percentage is down to .744 after June but their lead over second place Lafayette is up to 15.5 games. The Stars' wildcard lead is a thin half game over a surging Canton team while Poplar Bluff is trying to hang in the race holding at .500. Springfield Rookie starter Bill Joyce has started his big league career with nine consecutive wins and leads the South in ERA.

In the North the top four teams are separated by just 10 games with Rochester attempting to stretch out a lead that ended June at 4.5 games over second place Kenosha. Bay City is just three games out of the wildcard while Oshkosh sits at five games back. South Bend sits in dead last in the North but Dave Donnelly just wants to keep raking. Donnelly leads all three North triple crown categories and he's just five RBI behind Jim Lee for the HBL triple crown lead.

After waiting almost three years for a no hitter the HBL now has two in just over two months time. Poplar Bluff Predators ace Kevin LeBlanc no hit the Bay City Lake Monsters on June 22. LeBlanc allowed two walks while striking out 10 in the 7-0 PB victory. It's the first no hitter in Predators history and the 24th overall in HBL history.

Daniel Simon entered the game with Duluth on June 29 with 12 homers on the season. He finished the game with 15 after slugging three solo homers in the Columbia win. Simon's outburst came just 12 days after Dayton's Ray Lovell hit three homers against Davenport. Simon was upstaged a bit by the Monarchs' starting pitcher Daniel Davis. Davis not only pitched a five hit, complete game, shutout but he also hit a two run homer of his own in the second inning.
