SCORES
EDM - 3 TOR - 4 The Oilers used two third period goals by LW Taylor Hall (8.5d/9.5d) to force the game into overtime, but D Cody Franson (6.5b/7.5b) again provided the shootout winner to give the home team two points. ( Note the shootout format again allowed a 7th shot after Franson's goal was scored on the sixth shot.)
COL - 2 WAS - 6 Alex Ovechkin (9.5b/10.0b) had two goals including a PP tally and a three point night, while C Nicklas Backstrom (8.5d/8.5d) added three helpers to give the Capitals their first win of the season.
NYR - 3 STL - 1 Rangers LW Chris Kreider (7.0c/7.5c) had a Gordie Howe hat trick - a goal, an assist, and a fight, (actually two fights) to continue the magical road trip. G Henrik Lundqvist's early season stats are just staggering, 1.20 GAA and a .957 save percentage.
MTL - 6 VAN - 2 The Canadiens bracketed three goals into the first and third periods to overwhelm their opponents tonight. C David Desharnais (7.0d/7.5d) scored and had two assists to lead the Habs scoring.
PHI - 4 DET - 3 The visiting Flyers tied the game early in the third period and then survived OT with RW Wayne Simmonds (8.0c/8.0c) shootout score making the difference at Joe Louis Arena.
BOS - 2 CBL - 1 Bruins RW Jarome Iginla (8.0d/8.0d) had the GWG in the third period and D Zdeno Chara (9.0c/9.0c) scored another first period goal to pull past the tough Blue Jackets squad.
NYI - 4 NAS - 5 The Predators jumped out to a 4 goal lead in the first period and then struggled all game holding off the furious comeback attempt by the Islanders. Nashville's RW Patric Hornqvist (7.5b/7.5b) scored twice and C Mike Fisher (7.5c/7.5c) added three helpers in the win.
OTT - 3 SJS - 1 Newcomer D Jake Gardiner (6.5b/7.5b) scored the insurance goal in the third period leading his team past the frustrated 1 - 4 Sharks squad.
PIT - 3 TBY - 1 RW James Neal (8.0a/8.0a) has scored twice in his last two games, this time successfully leading the Pens past the Bolts.
BUF - 3 CHI - 2 The surging Sabres (5- 1) used two third period loads by LW Marcus Foligno (7.0b/8.0b) and D Jaime McBain (7.0b/7.0b) to get past the previously undefeated Blackhawks (4 -1) at Chicago's United Center Arena.
DAL - 2 MIN - 1 The visiting Stars got the GWG from C Cody Eakin (6.5b/7.5b) in the second period and G Dan Ellis (6.5a/6.5a) made the lead stand up for the teams second win.

In other NHL news;
FLA - The Panthers announced that they completed a trade with the Oilers for the services of RW Ales Hemsky (6.5a/6.5a) for RW Scottie Upshall (6.5a/6.5a). Sports radio stations in Edmonton were celebrating their "steal" of Upshall citing the "million dollar savings" and his recent play. Sunrise area sports talk was much more reserved saying both players were in the last year of their deals and it's too early to judge.
PIT - When C Evgeni Malkin (10.0b/10.0b) did not come out of the locker room for the third period, TV announcers replayed video of his big check and think he may have suffered an upper body injury as he only returned to the ice for two short shifts before the end of the period. No official announcement has been made.
CHI - The Blackhawks not only lost the game, they may have lost RW Marian Hossa (7.5d/7.5d) to an elbow injury. In the postgame interview the Chicago head coach reported that Hossa was still in the trainers room and it didn't look good for his dressing for the next game.
WIN - RW Blake Wheeler (8.0d/8.0d) left practice early and did not return. No report on the severity of any injury and no one was talking after practice either. Players leaving all uttered the same phrase "See the Head Coach" when asked about their teammate.
MIN - LW Zach Parise (8.5d/8.5d) made the surprise announcement after practice that he has a sore left wrist and may be out for a couple games. Team officials seemed surprised and scrambled to respond. The Wild finally issued a press release saying Parise may miss up to two weeks with the wrist injury.
