In the bottom of the first, the Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out. Williams flew out to right and then Mejias threw Brock out at home as he had tagged up. And the Cubs would fail to score in the inning.

In the top of the second, the Colt .45s took the lead on an RBI triple by Smith. Smith went on to score when Taussig grounded to third.

In the top of the third, Buddin came home when Larker grounded to first.

After three: Houston 3 Chicago 0.

In the top of the fourth, Buddin hit a two-run single.

In the top of the fifth, Williams threw Larker out at home as he was trying to score from second on a Smith single.

In the bottom of the sixth, an RBI single by Williams put the Cubs on the board. With a runner on first and two out, Dean Stone took the mound for the Colt .45s.

After six: Houston 5 Chicago 1.

Bob Anderson took the mound for the Cubs in the top of the eighth.

With a runner on first and one out in the bottom of the eighth, Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s.

Pinch hitter Merritt Ranew led off the top of the ninth with a home run. After an Amalfitano single, Buddin hit a two-run homer.

Jim Golden took the mound for the Colt .45s in the bottom of the ninth.

The Colt .45s busted out with 13 hits in the game.

Final score: Houston 8 Chicago 1.
