In the top of the first, Bando scored on a wild pitch. The Athletics loaded the bases with one out. Green flew to center for the second out. Mangual then grounded to first to retire the side.

In the bottom of the first, Ford tied the game with an RBI single. Billings then put the Rangers in the lead with a 2 run single.

In the top of the third, Tenace tied the game with a 2 run homer.

After three: Oakland 3 Texas 3.

In the bottom of the fourth, Harrah gave the Rangers the lead back with an RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, Broberg left the game with an arm injury. So, with a runner on first and one out, Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. Harrah grounded to second to end the inning.

After six: Texas 4 Oakland 3.

Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the seventh. Epstein then gave the Athletics the lead with a 3 run homer. Withnobody out, Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers. With a runner on first and one out, Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers.

In the top of the ninth, Mangual hit an RBI double. Brown added an RBI single. Pinch hitter Joe Rudi added an RBI single. Hendrick scored Brown with a double but, on the play, Rudi was thrown out at home trying to score from first. Bando then hit an RBI double. Nine men came to the plate in the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, Aurelio Monteagudo took the mound for the Athletics.

The two teams combined for 22 hits in the contest. The Athletics won despite committing 3 errors.

Final score: Oakland 11 Texas 4.
