Oof. I think that's because rosters are set prior to each postseason series, and cannot be changed unless a player goes on the DL, and needs to be replaced on the 25-man. I guess the game is hardwired to inform you that the player is ready to come off the DL, but also hardwired to follow the postseason roster rules. As you say, a classic catch-22.
