NLCS Game 1: St. Louis 4, Chicago 2
St. Louis starting pitcher Jacob de Grom rebounded from a rough first inning and Jed Gyorko delivered a key two-run pinch-hit double in the seventh inning to lift the River Walkers to a 4-2 win over the Chicago G-Men in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
de Grom allowed the first four batters he faced in the opening inning to reach, as the G-Man grabbed a 2-0 lead. But Chicago would not score again, as de Grom pitched into the seventh inning and five relievers combined to complete the shutout.
Michael Conforto got St. Louis on the board with a solo homer off Bryan Mitchell in the second inning. Gyorko then gave the Walkers the lead with his two-run pinch hit double off Grant Dayton with two outs in the seventh.
A solo homer from Rhys Hoskins off Wandy Peralta in the eighth added some insurance for St. Louis.
