Offseason, Leading into the 2014-15 season

The Oilers drafted 16th this season and in the first round we took Leon Draisaitl. Leon should be a solid player for the next decade once he becomes of age. A good skater with goood hands, wil probably go back to Prince Albert this season.

We didn't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick due to deals but in the 4th round, we drafted Center Pius Suter from the Soo Greyhounds. In the 5th round, we picked up LD Sebastian Moberg from Finland. In the 6th we drafted Dman Shawn Connors. Our 7th round and last pick was goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen.

We made a very large splash in the FA market though as we didn't lose anyone of major value and signed Ryan Callahan away from the New York Rangers for 5 years at 5.6 million per season, signed Dman Matt Niskanen from the Penguins for 5 years and 5.08 million and goaltender Brian Elliot from the St. Louis Blues for 3 years and 1.5 million. We have a log jam at goalie now with Elliot who will be starting and Scrivens and Fasth looking to be a back up thoough one will be dealt before the start of the season.

With the roster being pretty much set, we will be heading into the new season. Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent Hopkins are expected to lead the way again this season and big things are expected from Justin Schultz and hopeful prospect Darnell Nurse. This should be a good and fun season in the city of Edmonton.
