I'd actually Googled the phrase and got 150 hits that told me all about Chuck Thompson. But none of them seemed to know the origin or derivation of Miss Agnes. His other, frequently used catch-phrase, I learned, was "aint the beer cold". That might explain it

Chuck Thompson actually got the "go to war, Miss Agnes!" from a golfing partner who refused to curse, or so I recall from his biography. He abandoned the call in the midst of the Vietnam War in order not to offend anyone.
