The long weekend series in Kansas City comes to an end today. The Rangers have won two out of the first three this series. Last night's 11-0 defeat was the Royals worst loss of the season.

Nelson led off the game with a single, his 50th hit of the season. Harrah brought Nelson home with a double.

In the bottom of the second, Kirkpatrick tied the game with an RBI double. Schaal followed with a run-scoring single to give the Royals the lead with his 20th RBI of the season.

In the top of the third, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Burroughs went down on strikes for the second out. Grieve then flew out to right to retire the side.

In the bottom of the third, Mayberry knocked one in with a single as the Royals took advantage of two Rangers errors in the inning.

After three: Kansas City 3 Texas 1.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Royals scored one on a Patek single. Wohlford singled to load the bases with two out. Then came a 2-RBI single by Otis. Then Mayberry got an RBI single for the Royals 10th hit of the game. Nine men batted for the Royals in the inning.

Pete Broberg took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the sixth. The Rangers committed their third error of the game and Wohlford made them by with a run-scoring single to reach 20 RBI on the season.

After six: Kansas City 8 Texas 1.

The top of the seventh began with Ruthven striking out Mangual for his 50th K of the season. He then struck out Kubiak for his 10th K of the game. The Rangers came back in the inning to get a 2-RBI double by Maddox. Maddox reached double digits in RBI on the season with that hit.

Ruthven ended the top of the eighth by striking out Mangual. This tied a Royals team record for strikeouts in a game with 12.

Ruthven began the ninth by walking Kubiak and was replaced by Stan Thomas. 4 pitches later, the game was over.

Final score: Kansas City 8 Texas 3.
