1948-1949 Season in Review

Well Philadelphia has joined the NHL as a revival of the dormant Wanderers franchise. Inspired by Edmonton's semipro team they name themselves the Flyers. The Baker Bowl Arena turns out to only seat 15,000 due to costs involved still one of the largest arena's in the NHL.

We have decided not to interfere with the new basketball league. Our arena's need the extra dates.

Detroit and Pittsburgh finished 1 and 2 in the standings but St. Louis won their first cup!!! (They had 4 from their time in Ottawa)

With the season expanded to 56 games a new assists record was set (54) by Pittsburgh's Ron Stout. Boston's Pittman led the NHL in goals and points with Toronto's young star finished 2nd in goals and 3rd in points.

23 yr old Jerry Wood of Detroit won his 2nd straight D-man of the year award and 23 yr old St. Louis winger Felix-Antoine St. Pierre won his 3rd straight MVP.

VOTE: A suggestion has been made for the Americans to re-brand as the defunct Rangers. Majority vote wins and a minimum of 3 will be required to change names.

I'd originally had the Americans survive as opposed to the Rangers as they had won more Stanley Cups by decision time and I wanted to change up the original 6. However since the League was more than 6 teams keeping them as the Americans no longer seems as necessary.
