Vernon Harrison
[ATTACH][ATTACH]This photo (on the left) of Vernon Harrison, like the one of Charles England above, comes from the SABR book,THE NEWARK EAGLES TAKE FLIGHT.
But the case of Vernon Harrison is a puzzling one. He had been on my missing players list as a one-game third baseman with the 1946 Newark Eagles. Despite his being in the book about the 1946 Newark Eagles team, the author of his biography in that book has concluded that he was not associated with Newark that year. The author, Margaret Gripshover, has concluded that the box score showing "Harrison" at 3rd base was published in error, and it should have read "Patterson," meaning Pat Patterson.
But Vernon Harrison had been a pitcher for the Newark Eagles at an earlier time, in 1939, so he was a valid Negro Leagues player.
The photo on the left shows him in his high school uniform. The school was Lincoln High School of Jersey City, NJ. The photo on the right is from seamheads.com. The uniform is unidentified.
