Record: 8-6, 3rd, 0.5 GB Cedar Rapids and Des Moines
Cedar Rapids built a 4-0 lead by the fifth inning and Madison Bumgarner didn't allow a run over six innings to lead the Golden Grapplers to a 4-2 win over St. Louis at Busch Stadium (1997).
Cedar Rapids took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning.
Matt McLain drew a lead-off walk from St. Louis starter Steven Brault.
He stole both second and third, and scored on a Victor Robles ground out.
The Grapplers stole seven bases in the game, McLaine with four, Robles with two and one from Jacob Pearson.
That lead reached 3-0 in the top of the second.
Terrina Vavra led off with a double, and scored on a McLain single.
McLain stole second and found the plate on a Robles single.
An inning later, Domingo Santana led off with a single and moved to second on a walk to Noah Naylor.
Santana scored when Pearson hit into a fielder's choice.
An RBI single from Edmond Americaan off Bumgarner in the fifth got the Walkers on the board.
St. Louis got its other run in the ninth, J.T. Realmuto with an RBI double off Danny Grigg.
But Grigg struck out Javier Baez to end it.
In his six innings, Bumgarner (2-1) allowed one run on three hits.
David Cullison, Durbin Feltman and Grigg all worked an inning apiece to seal the win.
Grigg earned his fourth save, despite allowing a run.
