Montreal Canadiens (26-20-2) at New Jersey Devils (21-22-4)

After a lengthy break for the All-Star game Montreal goes to the Prudential Center to face the Devils. Montreal beat New Jersey 4-1 in Montreal in the only meeting so far this season. Montreal is 2 points out of the 3rd spot in the Atlantic, but the Bruins still own a 2 game in hand advantage.

The New Jersey Devils are currently in 12th spot in the Eastern Division, 8 points out of the final wild card spot. The Devils struggle on specialty teams, with the 27th PP (10.6%) and 27th PK (81.8%)

RW Horst Navrkal leads the Devils with 13 goals, he also has 25 points in 47 games. The 32 year old 1982 All-Star is an offensive forward with smooth acceleration and puckhandling skills. In 168 career NHL games, all with the Devils, he has 70 goals and 128 points with 73 PIMs and a +13 rating.

RD John Cadwalader leads the Devils with 21 assists. He has 26 points in 47 games this season. The 32 year old is a two-way defenseman with good stamina and great passing skills. RW Jeremy Daigle leads the team with 30 points, including 12 goals in 47 games. The 19 year old offensive forward has great speed and acceleration. After finishing his junior career with the Kamloops Blazers he has played 129 career NHL games all with the Devils. Over the past 2 seasons, he has 28 goals and 72 points with 77 PIMs and a -9 rating. Daigle was the Devils 2nd round, 31st pick overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.

Montreal gets a 2-0 lead at 6:41 when LW Petr Svestka gets his 2nd of the year. Montreal continues to dominate the play and have all the momentum when LW Lorenzo Bocci pots his 17th of the season at 10:53 to make it 3-0. LW Lorenzo Bocci gets his 2nd of the night at 18:42 to make it 4-0 Montreal. Montreal out shot the Devils 17 to 4 in the 2nd period and lead 4-0.

Montreal scores on its 1st shot of the 3rd when RW Al Ladd gets his 16th of the year 30 seconds in. RD Matej Ouhrabka gets his 1st point in 12 games with an assist. It is now 5-0. New Jersey does break the shut out, LW Karl Waldie gets his 5th of the year at 2:16 of the 3rd and it is now 5-1. Moments later, the Devils pop another goal, RD Stephane Wilson gets his 2nd of the year at 3:13 and it is now 5-2 Montreal. The scoring continues with LW Al Ladd's 2nd of the night on the PP at 4:53 and it is now 6-2. That is it for G Brent Sanders and in comes G Jeremy Hollowell. C Dave Wright scores at 18:51 with his 22nd and it is now 7-2. Montreal gets 2 points while padding some stats. Montreal out shot New Jersey 15 to 8 in the 3rd. Montreal was 1 for 6 on the PP, while the Devils were 0 for 4.

Montreal's RW Al Ladd is the 1st star with his 2 goals and 3 assists and +4 rating. The 30 year old Ladd now has 17 goals and 42 points in 49 games. Minnesota Wild G Jaroslav Hecko made 32 stops in a 3-0 win over the Oilers. The 20 year old Hecko now has 22 wins with a 2.27 GAA and a .925 save % and 2 SO's in 35 games. In his rookie season for the Wild, he had a 48-47-6 record with a 3.33 GAA, a .895 save % and 10 SO's in 107 games with the Medicine Hats Tigers of the WHL. Hecko was undrafted and signed as a free agent with the Wild on July 7th, 1982.
