07/20/1973 - Giants Turn Back Chicago, 7-5; Big Game for Kong

San Francisco first baseman Dave Kingman played a vital role in his team's 7-5 triumph over Chicago. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for San Francisco. Elias Sosa converted his 9th save in 12 tries. San Francisco has now won 3 in a row.

San Francisco grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Kingman, who is tied for 2nd in the NL in home runs with 23, hit a 3-run home run off the Cubs LHP Larry Gura. His 23rd home run of the season put the Giants out in front, 5-2.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Kingman said.
