Today is C Dennis Webb's 26th birthday.

MIL: Jerry Eckert (24-L 0-3 5.96) Rookie vs. POR: Brian Hagans (26-R 2-2 3.14) Rookie

Eckert was the Florida State League (A) Pitcher of the Year last season. His 1st three starts were pretty rough, but last time out, he went 7 innings, allowed 2 runs, 5 hits, 0 HR, 3 walks and struck out 7. We have never faced him.

Hagans is 0-2 in his last 5 starts with a 5.32 ERA.

Bill Valdez works the count full and then flies out to left. Tom Harriger singles to left. Larry Reichler strikes out as Harriger steals 2nd. Don Duggan grounds out to 2nd!

Bottom of the First:
Rollie Ferree flies out to right. Dave Lesley strikes out. Dave Benya grounds out to 2nd.

Top of the Second:
Gene Belt leads off with a line drive single to left. Pedro Perez flies out to deep center and Belt tags up and makes it to 2nd. Brian Hagans calls the trainer out... and Pepe escorts him down to the clubhouse... New Pitcher: Barry Chapman (27-R). Bob Coyne grounds a single to right. Belt stops at 3rd. Dave Glinsky grounds into a 6-4-3 double play!

Top of the Third:
With 1 out, Bill Valdez singles and steals 2nd. With 2 outs, Larry Reichler walks and then Don Duggan singles to left and Valdez scores. 1 to 0, Brewers. A wild pitch moves the runners up... Gene Belt walks to load them up. Pedro Perez grounds out to 1st!

Bottom of the Fourth:

Dave Lesley leads off with a hit. Dave Benya grounds into a force out at 2nd, 6-4. Jeff Austin beats out an infield hit. We pull off a double steal! Larry Sinchak takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 to load the bases up for ice cold Woody Griesbach. He lines one hard to deep left, but Pedro Perez makes a great running catch. Benya trots home and Austin moves over to 3rd. Tie game: 1 to 1. Tony Socorro grounds out to short.

Top of the Eighth:
New Pitcher: Don Schmidt (27-R). Eddie Thomas is in to play short and Dave Lesley moves over to 2nd. 2-3-4 hitters for Milwaukee do down in order!

Bottom of the Eighth:

With 1 out, Rollie Ferree grounds a hit to left past the drawn in third baseman. He gets thrown out stealing by one of the weakest armed catchers in Baseball.... Dave Lesley flies out to center.

Top of the Ninth:
They do down in order!

Bottom of the Ninth:
With 1 out, Jeff Austin takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. He steals 2nd and C Bob Coyne throws the ball into center field! Austin goes to 3rd! With the infield in, Larry Sinchak grounds one past the second baseman for a hit and Austin scores and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Beavers!!!

We had 6 hits and made no errors
Milwaukee had 6 hits and made 1 error

Brian Hagans went 1.1 scoreless innings, allowed 2 hits, no walks and struck out 1.
RHP Barry Chapman went 1.2 innings, allowed 1 run, 3 hits and 2 walks. He threw a WP.
LHP Lou Hertzberg went 4 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit (an infield hit by the pitcher) and struck out 2.
RHP Don Schmidt (W 5-1) went 2 perfect innings and struck out 2.

Jerry Eckert (L 0-4) went 8.1 innings (CG), gave us 2 runs (1 earned), 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8. At bat, he had a hit.

CF Rollie Ferree had 2 hits with a double. 3B Larry Sinchak had 2 hits and knocked in the winning run.

Pepe says I have to talk to the doctor about Brian Hagans.... Elbow tendinitis and it will take Hagans at least 2 months to recover....
