Washington 7, Norfolk 6
Trying to play the roll of the spoiler as the Senators are battle for the Division Title, but the bullpen couldn't back-up a strong start by Carlos Mateo. Mateo got the ND going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 4 runs (3 ER). But Antonio Hernandez gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, in 2/3 innings for the loss (5-4). Chris Shopland went 2-3 with 4 RBI, including a double and triple. Ralph Pierce and Mauro Candelaria each added 2 hits.

Washington 8, Norfolk 4
Karl Armstrong had a decent outing, but it wasn't enough. Karl went 6.2 innings, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits for the loss (9-11). Gilberto Ramos and Chris Shopland each had 2 hits, and Brian Cline hit a 2-run HR (27).

** Injury News: After the game it was announced that starting 3B Ralph Pierce will be out the rest of the season with an oblique strain. Pierce once a top 100 prospect struggled with the bat this season hitting .244 12-52 and had 118 K's in 139 games.

Washington 6, Norfolk 3
Jose Martinez, in what might be his last start as a Cav, gave up 6 runs on 7 hits and 4 BB's over 7 innings and took the loss (3-13). Jose Rodriquez hit a 2-run HR (18) and Pablo Freitas added 2 hits.

** Norfolk off-day game 1 of a 4-game series that will see Richmond battle Washington in Washington. Richmond has a 2 game lead... Game 1 saw Washington win an old fashioned pitching duel 2-1. Washington's lead is now 1 game.

** With a sweep of New Castle, the Wilmington Iron Pigs took a 1 game lead over the Milford Clippers.

Off-day News: It was announced today that free-agent to be Carlos Rodriquez signed an extension. The exension will pay him an average of 4.5 million a year for 4 years, the 4th year being a team option. Rodriquez is 28 and a 4.5 star talent. This season he went 1-1 with 7 saves and a 2.13 ERA in the closer role for the Cav's. A role he will most like continue next season.

Norfolk 7, Ellicott City 10
Tsuneo Sato took the loss (14-11) getting roughed up in 2.2 innings allowing 8 runs (7 ER) on 8 hits. Jorge Castro gave up 2 runs on 6 hits in 2.1 innings in relief. The Cav's offense was lead by Mauro Candelaria with 3 hits and a Grand-Slam by Julio Romero (9). Brian Cline add a HR (28)

** Washington moved into a tie with Richmond by winning game #2 of the series 10-9.

** Wilmington Iron Pigs loss to Newark 3-4 and the Clippers loss to New Castle 6-9. The Iron Pigs maintain a 1 game lead.

Norfolk 7, Ellicott City 6
Don Sweetapple took the loss in his final start of the season, ending the season with a respectable 18-9 record. Don went 4.1 innings giving up 8 hits and 6 runs. Mauro Candelaria had 3 hits to lead the Cavs, and Gilberto Ramos added 2-solo-HR's (11) and Allen Britt hit a solo HR as well (14).

Organizational News: Ernesto Ortiz Manager of the AAA Yokohama Baystars contact was not renewed and the search will go to find his replacement. The Baystars ended up 52-92 for the season.

** Washington took a 1 game lead over the Richmond Cardinals with a 8-5 victory. One more game.

** The Milford Clippers loss to the Milford Clippers 8-5 and Wilmington Iron Pigs beat Newark Millers 5-4 to clinch the division title.

Game 162
Norfolk 0, Ellicott City 8
Carlos Mateo took the loss (12-12) giving up 5 runs on 6 hits in 5.2 innings. The Cav's loss for the 7th straight time to end the season... The Cav's offense was only able to manage 6 singles from 6 different players.

** The Washington Senators showed up and took the Championship home, with a combined shut-out from Ron Martin and Garip Ertegun. Taking the game 5-0.
