You can continue on afterwards. There may be some things which are not correct going forward (service time will likely be wrong for anyone who was injured this year, awards may not be correct, team finances may have issues, etc...). And obviously players will have essentially missed development (some ratings are updated, but most are not). But it should be playable still.
