Florida Panthers (23-17-4) at Montreal Canadiens (24-17-2)

The Panthers and Canadiens are meeting for the 1st time this season. The Canadiens are currently in 4th in the East with 50 points, 6 back of the East leading Blue Jackets. Montreal are currently ranked 28th with 2.23 goals per game. Montreal gives up on average 2.30 goals which ranks 6th in the NHL.

RW Samuel Hebert is a 22 year old from Norfolk County, ON. The two way forward is primarily a goal scorer as rated by the scouts. Hebert plays on the 1st line RW and his main role is a set up man, but also can play the role of shadow. Originally drafted 161st overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft by the Flames, Montreal traded for Hebert on February 12th, 1982 for JB Brooks. Hebert has 12 goals and 23 points with 28 PIMs in 43 games. For his career, Hebert has 39 goals and 104 points with 122 PIMs in 179 career NHL games.

The Florida Panthers sit in 5th place in the East with 40 points. The Panthers average 2.39 goals per game which ranks them 23rd in the NHL. They give up 2.57 goals per game and that ranks them 14th in the NHL.

The Panthers will start G Lowell Tillman, he has 15 wins with a 2.67 GAA and a .900 save % in 31 games. Last year he had 41 wins with a 2.35 GAA and a .916 save % in 67 games. Montreal starts G Wilf Nestor, he has 20 wins with a 2.19 GAA and a .921 save % in 35 games.

In a real close checking 1st period, half way through the shots were just 2-1 for Montreal. The shots finished up 10-3 Montreal but the period was scoreless.

In another tentative start to the period, half way through the 2nd Montreal out shot Florida 3-0. Florida does break the ice on the PP when LD Mike Walters gets his 4th of the year at 18:20 to make it 1-0. The shots in the 2nd were 10-5 for Montreal.

Florida goes up 2-0 at 8:32 of the 3rd period when LW Adrien Gagne gets his 15th of the year. Montreal makes it 2-1 when RW Samuel Hebert gets his 13th of the season at 9:28. Montreal could not tie it up and lose 2-1. The shots were 10-7 for Montreal in the 3rd and 30-15 for the game for Montreal. Florida was 1 for 2 on the PP, Montreal was 0 for 3.

Florida Panthers LW Adrien Gagne was the 1st star with a goal. The 22 year old now has 15 goals and 29 points with 20 PIMs in 45 games. Gagne was the Panthers 102nd overall pick in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.

Around the NHL.......

Vancouver Canucks RD Jordan Byrne had 3 assists in a 4-1 win over the Avalanche. The 21 year old now has 8 goals and 31 points with 58 PIMs. Byrne was the Canucks 1st round, 30th overall pick in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. It was noted after the game that Byrne could miss up to 2 weeks with a mild blunt trauma to the eye.

Nashville Predators C Jozsef Szucs had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over the Lightning. The 29 year old Szucs now has 20 goals and 43 points with 30 PIMs in 44 games. Szucs is currently on a 6 year, $9.7M deal per year signed on October 18th, 1981.

Carolina Hurricanes C Joseph Saito had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over the Bruins. The 32 year old now has 17 goals and 45 points with 55 PIMs in 41 games. Saito won a Stanley Cup with the Canucks before getting traded to the Hurricanes on June 25th, 1981.
