Ottawa Senators (13-20-4) at Montreal Canadiens (21-14-2)

The Canadiens host the Senators tonight. They have split 2 games so far this season, both in Ottawa. The last time we met, the Sens won 6-3. Montreal has won the last few games and have moved into 4th in the East, still 10 points behind the East/Atlantic leading Bruins. Montreal still needs to improve on the PP, we are ranked 30th in the NHL with a 7.8% success rate. Originally I was going to wait until the deadline, but now I have decided that I will have to look sooner. The PK is running at a 88.4% rate, ranking 2nd in the NHL.

At LD we have Tyler Duclos. The 22 year old from Montreal, QC is a defensive defenseman that the scouts say is strongest attribute is his physical play. Duclos plays on the 3rd pairing in a stay at home defenseman role. Montreal selected Duclos 54th overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on December 17th, 1981. This year in 25 games he has 3 assists for 3 points with 24 PIMs. For his career he has 9 goals with 33 points and 124 PIMs in 120 games.

The Senators are currently 14th in the East with 30 points, they are 7 points out of the final playoff spot. Ottawa is currently ranked 27th on the PP with a 10.5% success rate. They are ranked 27th as well for the PK with a 78.6% kill rate.

Ottawa will start G Alexandre Dube, he has 2 wins with a 3.72 GAA and a .866 save % in 8 games. Last year he had 4 wins with a 3.80 GAA and .886 save % in 19 games with Ottawa. Montreal goes with G Wilf Nestor, he has 18 wins with a 2.24 GAA and a .920 save % in 31 games.

Montreal opens up the scoring at 5:34 when C Samuel Fleury gets his 2nd of the season. It took Ottawa 8 minutes to get their 1st shot of the game. Montreal C Riley Callander finally got his 10th goal of the season at 15:01 on the PP. Callander last scored 22 games ago on October 23rd against the Flyers. It is now 2-0. Well maybe he bumped the slump as Callander gets his 2nd of the night and 11th of the year at 18:46 to make it 3-0. Montreal gets another goal, late when RW Adrian Andersson gets his 3rd of the season at 19:54 and its 4-0. Montreal out shots Ottawa 14-8 in the period.

Ottawa changes goalies to start the period and that may have fired them up, Ottawa gets on the board at 4:11 when C Jacob Rock gets his 10th of the year to make it 4-1. Montreal goes up 5-1 when LD Lance Lambright gets his 7th of the year at 6:43. Montreal treat the Sens back up no different then their starter as C Riley Callander completes the hat trick with his 12th goal of the year at 7:49 to make it 6-1. Montreal goes up 7-1 at 12:30 when RW Eric McFatridge gets his 5th of the season. The Canadiens go up 8-1 when C Riley Callander gets his 4th of the night, 13th of the year at 14:54 on the PP. Ottawa go back to their starter as Montreal has scored 8 goals on just 28 shots. Things do not get better for Ottawa as C Riley Callander gets his 5th goal of the night to make it 9-1, this time on a 5 on 3 PP at 18:38. Montreal out shot the Sens 16-7 in the period and have scored 9 goals on just 30 shots.

Wow after 2 periods of the red lamp lighting up every couple of minutes, the 3rd is scoreless. Montreal out shot Ottawa 15-10 in the 3rd and 45-25 in the game. Ottawa was 0 for 1 on the PP, Montreal was a well needed 3 for 5.

Montreal's C Riley Callander was the 1st star with his 5 goal performance. The 28 year old from Mississauga, ON now has 14 goals and 27 points with 42 PIMs in 38 games. The 2-time All-Star is in his 4th season with Montreal, he has a career high 38 goals last year.
