Walkers news: April 1 -- Kansas City 6, St. Louis 2

The St. Louis River Walkers' defense of their 2018 Midwest Baseball League championship got off to a rough start, as they dropped their season opener 6-2 to the Kansas City Pit Masters in K.C.
Jacob deGrom, the 2018 NL Cy Young winner, was not at his best lasting just four innings during which he allowed all six Masters' runs.
K.C. took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double from Allen Cordoba and a run-scoring single by Brett Phillips.
A three-run homer from Mike Gerber in the fourth made it 5-1.
A solo shot from Cordoba to lead off the sixth pushed it to 6-2.
Jameson Taillon went the first five innings for Kansas City, allowing both St. Louis run, to earn the win.
Four relievers combined to hold the Walkers scoreless the rest of the way.
