Walkers news: Sept. 11 -- St. Louis clinch NL South
The opening game of the St. Louis River Walkers three-game series against the Quad City Thunder may have been rained out, but that did not prevent them from clinching the National League South Division.
A 2-0 loss by the Springfield Prairie Fighters to the Cedar Rapids Golden Grapplers knocked them 19.5 games out of first place with 19 games remaining in the season, making it impossible for them to catch the Walkers.
At 99-44, St. Louis will go after the 100th win of the season when it hosts the Thunder in the opening game of a doubleheader.
A win by the River Walkers, or losses by the Dayton Fighter Pilots and Indianapolis Racers,. would allow the Walkers to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
