Fan Appreciation Day

The final regular season home game of Year II

Because without you, our loyal fans, we are just some old guy sitting in his underwear in the dark playing a computer game....

Oakland Oaks (65-90 .419 33 GB in 5th place in the PCL West) at
Portland Beavers (98-57 .632 in 1st place in the PCL West)

OAK: Pete McKendrick (27-R 6-8 3.36) Rookie vs. POR: Bob Grigg (24-R 9-1 2.45)

McKendrick is pitching on short rest. We beat him both times we faced him, but he pitched 1 good game, giving us 3 runs and 6 hits in 7 IP.

Grigg is still bothered by back stiffness, but he says he can go.

Top of the Sixth:

After getting the 3rd out, P Bob Grigg comes to the dugout and says his back is hurting...

Won - 2 to 0

Sweep!

We had 7 hits and made 1 error
Oakland had 5 hits and made 1 error

Bob Grigg (W 10-1) went 6 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4.
LHP Lou Hertzberg (H 6) went 2 scoreless innings, allowed 1 walk and struck out 2.
RHP Don Schmidt (SV 23) pitched a scoreless 9th, allowed 1 hit and 1 walk.

Pete McKendrick (L 6-9) went 6.2 innings, gave us 1 run, 4 hits, no walks and struck out no one. At bat, he hit a double.

2B Paul Bouvet had 2 hits with a triple and scored a run. That is 16 triples as a Beaver and 18 overall on the season. He only has 6 doubles as a Beaver. SS Eddie Thomas hit a double. PH Rollie Ferree drew a walk and scored a run.

For the Oaks, we did not get David Russell out at bat. He went 2 for 2 with 2 walks.

Pepe says Bob Grigg's back is no big deal and he ought to be 100% for his next start!

For the season, we drew 1,819,273 fans. Not a great number for a 2 time division winning club, but up from last year's 1,666,706. Boston leads Baseball with 2.8 million. This team had been a loser so long that I think there just are not that many baseball fans left. If we can keep up the winning, they will come...
