July 24 -- St. Louis 4, Cedar Rapids 1

Record: 54-44, 2nd, 5 GB Des Moines
Brendan Spagnuolo allowed one run over six innings and got three shutout inning from the bullpen as St. Louis downed Cedar Rapids 4-1 at Shibe Park (1939).
With the win, the River Walkers avoided getting swept in their three-game series against the Golden Grapplers.
Spagnuolo allowed just one run on three hits in his time on the mound. He struck out two and also walked a pair.
Brad Hand and Bobby Poyner both threw a shutout inning to get the game to the ninth.
But Walkers closer Tommy Kahnle had to get some help after he issued three straight walks to load the bases with two outs.
Phil Maton got it over in a hurry, getting Dominic Smith to fly out on the first pitch he saw to end it and earn Maton his fourth save of the season.
The River Walkers dinged Cedar Rapids starter Carlos Martinez early with a pair of runs in the first inning.
Byron Buxton drove in the game's first run with a single.
Andrew Benintendi, who had doubled, later scored on a wild pitch.
The Grapplers pulled within 2-1 in the bottom of the second after Justin Bour drew a one-out walk from Spagnuolo.
A Trevor Story double moved him to third and Bour scored on a Noah Naylor sacrifice fly.
Rhys Hoskins hit a solo homer off reliever Kelvin Herrera in the sixth, making it 3-1.
Bo Bichette singled off Thomas Burrows in the seventh and scored on a Byron Buxton double to wrap up the scoring.
