The first game of the year sees the Arizona Coyotes taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets (22-15-3).

The Coyotes are once again out shot and outplayed in the 60 minute contest giving up over 35 shots and barely getting past 25 for themselves. Coach Wells says that there is going to be a change in the way the team plays and the output should change quickly!

The second game of the new year sees the Flyers (23-15-3) head into Arizona. The Coyotes coach Dean Wells said before the game that the team is looking to get more shots on net and pay better attention to the defensive end as well. He wants his guys to be out there playing their hearts out and if they aren't going to do that they better be ready to be hitting the bench or a new roster!

The First period is not what Coach Wells wanted as his Coyotes were only able to get a potful 2 shots on goal in the entire period. Mike Smith plays great in goal for the Coyotes and not only stops all 10 shots he faced but also helps the Coyotes kill off both the PK they faced so far.

The second period finally sees the Coyotes get some shots on goal with the total jumping up to 11 (which still is not good enough for Coach Wells) the Coyotes have also been fighting up tons of penalties as they have been in the box a total of 13 minutes in the 40 minute game. The Period did see the Coyotes score on a goal from Yakupov assisted by Ribeiro and Michalek! Mike Smith continues to blank the flyers and has faced a reasonable 18 shots.

The Coyotes defence and offence show up in the third period as they hold the flyers to 6 shots and get 13 of their own to even the shot totals at 24. As well the Coyotes PK played amazing killing off 7 of the 8 PK opportunities. The Third period saw 3 goals, 2 from the Coyotes and 1 from the Flyers as the Coyotes come away with a win and a game that Coach Wells describes as "somewhat acceptable"

Tonights home game brings the Calgary Flames (15-24-3) into town. The Coyotes who are coming off of a win against the Flyers are looking to win the third straight game against the Flames so far this season and get closer to the 8th playoff position.

The first period shows that each teams shooters are in the building as a whopping 14 shots are send on net. The Coyotes have been in some trouble as Klinkhammer is given a game misconduct and the Coyotes spend 14 minutes on the PK to start the game. After a quick PP goal by the Flames put them up 1-0 within the first few minutes of the game a SH goal by David Moss on only his second game back from injury sends the game to a 1-1 tie going into the second period.

The second period is just as offensive minded as the first and the shots are 27-25 already in favour of the Coyotes! The coyotes give up their second PP goal of the night and are able to get one of their own. unfortunately with only 4 seconds remaining in the period the flames are able to get the lead with a ES goal.

The third period is a little less of a shot fest and the teams finish with a 37-36 shot total. The Coyotes did take the shot advantage in this game but were unable to get past Karri Ramo and finish the game losing 3-2 and their first lost to the Flames so far this season. Coach Wells says after the game "We need to work on our discipline, we can't be giving up 20 minutes in penalties and expect to win any sort of games, that isn't how hockey works."

Tonight the Coyotes welcome the Minnesota Wild (24-18-3) to jobbing.com arena to try and get back into a winning fashion. The Coyotes offence has been playing better in the past few games and they just need to watch the penalties in this one.

The first period starts out the way the Wild would like it with a goal within the first 2 minutes of play. The Coyotes keep up the offence and dont take to many penalties but are unable to crack Josh Harding. The Wild are able to add one more on to take a 2-0 lead into the second period within the last 3 minutes of play.

The second period sees the Coyotes continue to put the offensive pressure on the Wild outshooting them 21-15 so far in the game. However the wild add one more goal and take the 3-0 lead into the third period. Josh Harding is a wall in the net that the Coyotes are just not able to get through.

The third period is more offence by the Coyotes and they finish the game outshooting the Wild 29-20 but fall to the 3-0. The Coyotes coach Dean Wells is dumbfounded saying after the game "Not much can be done when you are playing against a goalie who won't let anything in. You put almost 30 shots on net and you normally expect at least one to go in but Josh played a hell of a game and he deserves the W"
