Game 16 – April 25
3 – Boston
4 – Royals
12 Innings

WP – Steve Farr (1-0)
LP – Dana Kiecker (0-1)

Brett hit a 2-run home run in the 6th and Leibrandt tossed a solid 7 plus innings, so with the top of the order coming up and a slight 1 run lead, I brought Quisenberry in. He allowed a single to Mike Greenwell, and a then one of sinkers got away and Jody Reed scored to tie the game.

It remained a 2-2 tie into the 12th inning. Quisenberry tossed 2 shutout innings, and Farr had completed 1 shutout inning. Steve Lyons struck out, but reached first in the 12th on a passed ball. He advanced to second on a Mike Easler single and stole third. Geno Petralli tapped a fastball towards first and reached for a 2-out infield hit, scoring Lyons and giving the Sox a 3-2 lead.

Then in the bottom of the frame, 4 singles, a walk, and a couple flyouts came out to 2 runs and a win. Keith Thrower and Frank White scored; Wilson and Baines had the RBI's.

Brett went 4-6 with his 2 RBI's. Sundberg and Baines each had 2 hits.

Game 17 – April 26
5 – Boston
1 – Royals

WP – Bob Ojeda (2-1)
LP – Bud Black (1-2)

Ojeda had our number and we couldn't muster an ounce of offense until George Brett hit a solo home run in the 9th. It's the Sox' first win against us in 5 games this season.

Black was a touch inconsistent, giving up 4 runs in 5 innings. Bankhead gave up 1 in 4 innings of relief.

Game 18 – April 27
2 – Boston
3 – Royals

WP – Danny Jackson (3-1)
LP – Dave Stieb (1-3)
SV – Dan Quisenberry (1)

Jackson rolled until the 8th, walking 4 and striking out 6. The Sox had 9 hits but they stranded 8 and were victims of 2 Royal strike outs.

Alan Trammell committed his third error, but extended his hitting streak to 12 games, and put us up for good in the 5th with his first home run as a Royal.

Pete Rose announced his retirement. He's 7 for 16, mostly as a pinch hitter, with 2 RBI's.

In 13 of 18 games our starters have filed quality starts. They have 4 complete games and 2 shutouts, both by Jackson.
