In the bottom of the second, Tenace hit a two run homer.

Kubiak led off the top of the third with the first home run in Rangers history.

In the bottom of the third, the Athletics loaded the bases with two out. Rudi then delivered an RBI single. Bosman then hit Tenace with a pitch to force in another run. Green then popped out to first to end the inning.

After three: Oakland 4 Texas 1.

In the top of the sixth, Burroughs beat out the 4-6-3 to bring Nelson home from third.

After six: Oakland 4 Texas 2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mangual hit a solo home run.

In the top of the eighth, with a runner at first and nobody out, Rollie Fingers took the mound for the Athletics. Howard would pick up an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Rudi would end the inning by throwing Nelson out at home as he was trying to score from second on a Harrah single.

Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth with runners at first and second and one out. The bottom of the eighth ended like the top, with Maddox throwing Rudi out at home as he tried to score on a Dave Duncan single.

Bob Locker took the mound for the Athletics in the top of the ninth. With a runner on first and two out, Mincher lined to short to end the game.

The Athletics pounded out ten hits while the Rangers committed three errors in the game.

Final score: Oakland 5 Texas 3.
