Regular season is now over and we had a wild finish in the AL West! With the Mariners trailing the A's by 2 games with a week left in the season Seattle took 2 of 3 against the A's in Oakland. Seattle would then sweep the Angels and Oakland lost 2 of 3 against Texas setting up a one game playoff to determine the division winner. Fortunately for the loser they would be heading to the playoffs by virtue of the wildcard.

Tiebreaker:

A’s Dizzy Dean (17-11) vs M’s Scott Garrelts (9-10)

In front of 34,729 playoff crazy fans at the Oakland County Coliseum, Dizzy was dazzling scattering 10 hits over 8 IP striking out 10 holding the Mariners hitless in a 7-0 victory over Seattle.

The A’s get to Garrelts in the bottom half of the 2nd when Bibb Falk drove in Chuck Knoblauch with a double followed by a 2 run shot by Tommy Harper. Knoblauch would score again in the 4th on a single by Ivan Rodriguez.

The Chuck Knoblauch show wasn’t over as he led off the 6th with a walk, stole second and scored on a Renteria single.

The A’s would add insult to injury tacking on two more runs with one in the 7th (Rodriguez on a WP) and one in the 8th!
