2051 Season:

The BOSTON RED SOX won their second straight World Series, defeating the 120-win Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games. The Phillies finished the regular season 13 wins ahead of the second place Sox.

The SALEM RED SOX were relegated to the Pit of Despair. They finished 55-106, finishing a game behind the St. Lucie Mets for last place.

156 teams remain in Major League Baseball...

In Memoriam: Salem Red Sox

All Time Record: 2697-2796 (.491)

Best Season: 2028, 93-69, 30th place

Best Hitter: Danny Saling (2037-2045)

A 2037 first rounder, Saling debuted briefly at the end of that season, and was named the league's #11 prospect a year later. Saling was known especially for his eye, walking a league leading 177 times in 2043. He signed with the Yankees in 2046, and he currently plays right field for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Best Pitcher: Jon Soliz (2041-2051)

Soliz was acquired as a prospect from the Diamondbacks in 2039 in exchange for ace Gilberto Paz. Soliz never reached the 5.6 WAR Paz was worth in his season in Arizona, but he was a workhorse, starting 30+ games in each of the last nine seasons. He will be a free agent in 2053, when he will be able to rejoin the league.

Notes:

Gwinnett 1B Juan Castillo hit a league leading 61 home runs. Only 27 years old, he now has 391 for his career, and he has hit at least 50 homers in 6 consecutive seasons.

Milwaukee LF Jorge Trevino led the league with 8.6 WAR.

Fresno 3B Eric Warner struck out 160 times, moving him up to 8th all time with 2796. 5 of the 7 hitters ahead of him are in the Hall of Fame.

San Jose Giants SP Jimmy Nelson led the league with a 309 strikeouts, winning his second Cy Young Award.

Lancaster SP Jim Green allowed 56 home runs.

The St. Louis Cardinals hit 319 home runs as a team.

The Fresno Grizzlies were the best MiLB team, going 103-58 and finishing in 4th place.

The Seattle Mariners were the worst MLB team, going 67-94 and finishing in 140th place, despite a $200,000,000 budget. It was the worst season ever by a major league team.
