The Heartland Baseball League has entered it's 44th season. Two months into the 2021 season and Springfield looks unstoppable while the North is up for grabs.

It's not a surprise that Springfield becomes the first team to clinch a post season spot.
The Storm peaked on May 29 with a 44-9 record that included a remarkable 22 game win streak to get them to their .830 win percentage. Since then they are
just 10 games over .500 but have won enough to not only clinch the postseason spot but to win the South League with two weeks left in the season. The South
wildcard spot is Lafayette's to lose. The Stars have a five game lead over Poplar Bluff and Canton with nine games left to play.

Both North playoff spots are still up for grabs but Rochester and Kenosha have the leads for now. Rochester is two up on the Jackfish while Bay City and Oshkosh
are still within striking distance. Davenport is nine out with nine to play so they are virtually eliminated. The Reapers and the Fish finish the regular season with a
four game series at Rochester.

When Doug Roberson no hit Rochester on April 19 the HBL had gone almost three full years with out a no-no. Now the HBL has seen three in less than four months.
Reaper's ace Larry Collins returned the favor by pitching a no hitter against those same Lake Monsters on August 11. Bay City was also no hit earlier in the season
by Kevin LeBlanc of Poplar Bluff. Collins is attempting to win the North Pitching triple crown leading all three stat categories as of September 1. He has three
North Pitcher of the Year Awards and should earn his fourth this offseason. For the Reapers it is their second no hitter but the first since Craig Chalis
did it way back in 1984.
