July 2021

The Heartland Baseball League has entered it's 44th season. Two months into the 2021 season and Springfield looks unstoppable while the North is up for grabs.

The Springfield Storm still controls the South but it gets real interesting when you look at the wildcard race where three teams finish July within 1.5 games of each other. Lafayette and Poplar Bluff are tied but Canton is still right there.

Both post season spots are still up for grabs in the North where five teams are within 10.5 games of each other. Rochester holds a 4.5 game lead on top of the league but the playoffs will be determined by who gets hot and who gets cold and possibly who stays healthy. It should be an interesting end to the season.

Rochester slugger Roger Picot became the 16th Heartland Baseball League player to reach 400 career home runs. Picot lead off the top of the second inning with a solo homer off of Evansville starter Donnie Anthony for his 28th dinger of the season. Six days later in Lafayette Picot would 53rd player to eclipse 1000 RBI.
