New Jersey Devils (21-26-4) at Montreal Canadiens (29-20-2)

The Devils come to the Bell Center and the teams match up for the 3rd time this season. Montreal won the previous 2 games 4-1 and 7-2 and would like to make it a three-peat. RW Al Ladd is on fire, he has 14 points in his last 6 games including 6 goals. Montreal has called up G Richard Day to play in game one of back to back games. Day has 23 wins and a 2.19 GAA with .917 save % in 34 games in the AHL this year.

New Jersey is 12th in the Conference with 46 points, 14 points out of the final playoff spot. Their PP has been the worst in the league with just a 10% success rate. As a whole their special teams have been poor as the PK is ranked 28th with a 81% kill rate.

RW Jeremy Daigle leads the team with 13 goals and leads with 31 points in 51 games. The 19 year offensive forward is a strong skater with speed and quick acceleration. In his 2nd season as a Devil, he had 16 goals and 42 points in his rookie season last year playing all 82 games. The former Kamloops Blazer (WHL) was the 31st overall pick of the Devils in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.

LW Kale Anis is 2nd on the team with 30 points including 12 goals in 51 games. The 19 year old two-way player has speed and can hit. In his 2nd season as well with the Devils, last year in his rookie season he had 5 goals and 22 points in 82 games. He finished his career with the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL and was drafted 61st overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.

RD John Cadwalader leads the team with 22 assists and his 3rd with 27 points including 5 goals in 51 games. The 32 year old two-way defenseman can play long minutes and is a great passer. Traded by the Leafs on January 30th, 1982, He has played 207 career NHL games with 17 goals and 91 points with 92 PIMs and a -17 rating.

The Devils will start G Jeremy Hollowell, he has 14 wins in 37 starts with a .917 save %. Montreal starts G Richard Day, he has 3 wins in 5 starts with a .934 save %.

It took just 52 seconds for the Habs to go up 1-0 when LD Andrew Rickford scores his 3rd of the year. It was Montreal's first shot of the period. New Jersey ties it 1-1 at 17:29 when RD John Cadwalader scores his 6th on the PP. Montreal responds with a PP goal of their own when C Chris Hughes gets his 23rd of the year at 19:26. The period ends with Montreal out shooting New Jersey Dolly Parton style, 9 to 5.

Montreal extends their lead to 3-1 at 3:57 of the 2nd as after serving a penalty RD playing on the RW temporarily, Clint Arrington gets his 4th of the year. Montreal begins turning this into another rout, RW Yevgeny Ronov gets his 9th of the season at 5:28 to make it 4-1. RD Matej Ouhrabka gets his 4th goal of the season at 16:07 to make it 5-1 Montreal. Montreal out shot the Devils 12 to 4 in the 2nd period. New Jersey is 1 for 4 on the PP, Montreal 1 for 3 on the PP.

New Jersey make it 5-2 at 5:49 of the 3rd period when C Horst Navrkat gets his 14th of the season. Montreal gets a 4 goal lead back when RD Martin Sulc scores his 5th of the year at 10:56. New Jersey out shot Montreal in the 3rd period 9 to 8 and both teams finished 1 for 5 on the PP.

Montreal's LD Andrew Rickford was the 1st star with a goal and an assist. The 20 year old now has 3 goals and 8 points in 27 games. Rickford played 2 seasons with the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL before signing professionally. In 144 games in the WHL he had 32 goals and 123 points with 139 PIMs and a +23 rating. He played 18 games in the AHL before getting promoted to the NHL. He was Montreal's 107th overall pick in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.
