EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP: GAME 2
Matt Bastow took the hill for Tucson I’m game 2. Kelvin Augustin was the starter for Flagstaff.
Both pitchers were excellent early. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 4th.
Eddie Dollard doubled to lead off the inning and was standing on third with two out when Aaron Narcisse singled to left to bring him home and give the Turtles a 1-0 lead.
Bastow was not able to hold the lead as Mike Powell hit a solo home run to lead off the 5th. Larry Sykes and Blake Mattinson followed with back to back singles and Jeremy Elliott gave the Axemen a 2-1 lead, driving in a run with a ground out. Danny Wolcott tacked on another run with a two out single. Flagstaff led 3-1 after 5.
Mike Powell doubles in the 6th and Jeremy Elliott and Billy Gonzalez extended the lead with RBI singles.
Augustin continued to shut down the Turtles through 7. Isaiah Brennon and Josh Whiteside came out of the pen to complete the victory.
The Flagstaff Axemen won game 2 by a score of 5-1, evening the series at 1 game apiece.
Mike Powell went 2-4 with 1 double, 1 home run, 1 walk, 2 runs scored, and 1 RBI.
Kelvin Augustin got the win, pitching 7 innings, and allowing 1 run in 7 hits with 4 strikeouts.
