In the top of the first, Burroughs put the Rangers in the lead with a three run homer.

In the bottom of the third, the Royals, despite not having a hit in the game, loaded the bases with two out. Brown hit Otis with a pitch to force in a run. Burroughs then dropped a Mayberry flyball to allow two more runs to score. Brown still had a no-hitter through three.

After three: Texas 3 Kansas City 3.

Johnson led off the top of the fourth with a home run. Maddox added an RBI single with two out.

In the top of the fifth, Johnson this time picked up an RBI single.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, McRae doubled to give the Royals their first hit of the game. But he would be caught stealing third.

After six: Texas 6 Kansas City 3.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Royals loaded the bases with nobody out. Patek brought Kirkpatrick home with a sacrifice fly.

Leading off the top of the eighth, Johnson was tossed out of the game when he argued with the umpire after being called outon strikes. Tom Grieve replaced Johnson in left field.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Steve Foucault took the mound for the Rangers.

In the top of the ninth, Madlock stroked an RBI single.

In the bottom of the ninth, with runners at first and second and one out, Bill Gogolewski took the mound for the Rangers. Gogolewski struck out both Patek and Schaal to end the game.

The Rangers out hit the Royals 15-4 in the contest.

Final score: Texas 7 Kansas City 4.
