In the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals loaded the bases with two out. Pinch hitter Bob Aspromonte singled to bring in the go-ahead run for his new team against his old team. Javier then struck out to end the inning.

Lindy McDaniel took the mound for the Cardinals in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Boyer hit an RBI single. Woodling added one as well. Oliver followed with an RBI double. With runners at second and third and one out, Dick Drott took the mound for the Colt .45s. Woodling scored when Gotay grounded to second. Pinch hitter Charlie James hit a two out RBI double. The Cardinals batted around the order in the inning.

Bill Fischer took the mound for the Cardinals in the top of the ninth.

The Cardinals got 10 hits in the win while the Colt .45s committed three errors to contribute to the loss.

Final score: St Louis 8 Houston 2.
